How to Clean a PAX 2 & PAX 3 Device Step-by-Step

Enjoying PAX 3 and PAX 2 can be a regular activity, but it’s important to remember to clean the unit to keep it working at its best. An unkempt device could result in a clogged vapor path during use, making it difficult to draw when using the device, which could cause an undesirable experience. Regular cleaning after five to 10 uses should keep your PAX device running without a hitch, but a great practice is cleaning the device at the first sight of any material buildup. Cleaning your vaporizer is relatively quick and easy with only a few tools needed to get your device looking like it just came out of the box - so let’s walk through the process.

Piece by piece: Preparing your PAX 2 & PAX 3 for Cleaning

As you prepare yourself to clean your PAX device, here are few things to have on hand during the cleaning process:

  • A glass of fresh water
  • Cotton swabs
  • Isopropyl alcohol and/or alcohol wipes
  • A wire brush, included with PAX 2 & PAX 3
  • Pipe cleaners, included with PAX 2 & PAX 3
  • Paper towels, in case of any excess dirt

The PAX kit you own will help determine your cleaning process and length. While every PAX has components that come off, what you’ll need to clean depends on the accessories you have.

The PAX 3 complete kit requires cleaning the oven lid that’s been used (the complete kit comes with both a full and half-pack oven lid), the oven screen, a concentrates insert and the mouthpiece in addition to the vapor path inside the device. In comparison, the PAX 2 Kit only offers a standard oven lid, as well as a flat and raised mouth piece. Because of this, the cleaning processes will be a bit different between the two devices.

Before cleaning your vaporizer, make sure the unit is cooled down sufficiently. While many consumers believe the device to be easier to clean when warm, please use caution when handling a potentially-hot device. It’s recommended to wait several minutes until the vaporizer is cool to the touch before cleaning.

How to Clean the PAX 2 Device

Step 1: Begin cleaning your PAX 2 by removing the mouthpiece. Then, dip one of the included pipe cleaners in the isopropyl alcohol and inserting it into the vapor pathway, found inside the mouthpiece area. By “flossing” this pipe cleaner up and down through the vapor path, you’ll loosen any resistance-causing debris. This process will also pop out the oven screen from the bottom of the PAX 2.

Step 2: Once the oven screen is removed, place your mouthpiece and oven screen into your isopropyl alcohol bowl. Be sure to submerge your oven screen and not your oven lid. Never submerge the oven lid in any liquid, including isopropyl alcohol.

Step 3: After you finish working with pipe cleaners, move onto cotton swabs. As with the pipe cleaner, submerge your cotton swab in isopropyl alcohol. Then, scrub the cotton swab along the inside of your PAX 2’s oven and the top of your device. You may need to use more than a few cotton swabs for a thorough cleaning, depending on how long the personal vaporizer has gone without a cleaning.

Cotton swabs can also be used for cleaning the PAX 2 mouthpiece. Submerging the mouthpiece in isopropyl alcohol is surely a vital step, but a cotton swab rub along all surfaces of the mouthpiece and around the temperature button, located underneath the mouthpiece, can help keep your vape in tip-top shape

How to clean the PAX 3 Device-only Kit

When cleaning the device only kit, the process is as follows:

Step 1: Gently lift out the mouthpiece by sliding the multi-tool, available for separate purchase on PAX website, along the lip and gently lifting the piece out. You can also use a fingernail to lift out the mouthpiece. Isopropyl alcohol or soapy water can be used to clean the mouthpiece; this silicone piece can be submerged in either of the two. (Tip: avoid using any other products to clean the device, as it may nullify your warranty!) Wipe down the mouthpiece until there is no trace of any dirt, residue or liquid, and allow it to dry completely before placing it in the unit again for use.

Step 2: Next, lightly moisten a pipe cleaner (or a wire brush if you need a more thorough clean) with water or alcohol, and push it into the vapor path. Use the pipe cleaner to push out the oven screen and clean the path, with rigorous back and forth motion. Be careful of excess moisture, as the device cannot be used again until it is completely dry; excess moisture can cause damage to the device.

Step 3: Wipe down the oven screen with a moist cotton swab or alcohol wipe, using the same options on the oven lid. Do not submerge your oven lid in any liquid or solution, but the oven screen may be submerged in alcohol if needed.

Step 4: Next, work on the oven chamber with a moist cotton swab or alcohol wipe and remove stains from the chamber as best as possible from the stainless steel chamber. Please recognize that over time and with continued use, the oven chamber may become discolored. You can leave the oven chamber, mouthpiece, and screen to dry or use a clean, dry towel to wipe them down and speed up the process.

How to clean the PAX 3 Complete Kit

If you own the PAX 3 complete kit, the cleaning process is identical, but there are more components to clean. The half-pack lid is cleaned the same way as the regular oven lid, with a cotton swab dipped in isopropyl alcohol. Do not submerge this lid in liquid.

The PAX 3 complete kit also has a concentrates insert which needs to be cleaned. Use the multi-tool, which comes in the complete kit, to open the concentrate insert. Use a moist cotton swab on the inside of the concentrates insert, similar to how you clean the oven chamber. You can submerge the concentrates insert into isopropyl alcohol.

Back Together: Using your PAX Device After Cleaning

With your various parts all clean, shiny and dry, you can start replacing the components, starting with the oven screen into the oven chamber, the concentrates insert if in use, the oven lid, and ending with the mouthpiece. Make sure all pieces are fitting comfortably in their designated places, using the multi-tool for assistance, if necessary.

Wipe down the anodized aluminum shell with a towel lightly moistened with alcohol to remove any excess oils or fingerprints on the exterior. Now, you are free to enjoy many sessions with your PAX device with no interference.
